Activity Center update

The future Activity Center proposal was approved to proceed on March 14, 2010.

Mill Grove United Methodist Church has enjoyed several years of membership growth. In the past decade, our church has grown consistently in both membership and attendance by an average of 9 to 12 percent respectively. The largest increase over that same time has been approximately 25 percent for membership and attendance. Our growing congregation has allowed us to begin new programs and offer a variety of worship services. At the beginning of this year we added a third Sunday morning worship service as well as a second Sunday School hour. We have also expanded our Wednesday evening children and youth programs to include meals and class offerings for people at all stages of life.

We are truly blessed to be able to reach out to the community near us with a variety of programs designed to appeal to new Christians, Christians pursuing a deeper relationship with Christ, and those who are seeking to know Him for the first time. These programs often fill our halls and spill into our outdoors. Throughout the week our church buildings are used for Bible studies, music ministries, ministry group activities, and community meetings. We frequently feel the need for additional and larger spaces to accommodate our daily, weekly, and seasonal events.

For this reason, by request of the Administrative Council, a Study Committee was formed to look at the feasibility of adding an Activity Center to our church campus. The Committee created a building program based on congregational focus groups, and determined the new space should include a basketball court, racquetball court, exercise room, workout room, and warming kitchen, as well as miscellaneous and necessary support spaces; in total the building will be approximately 11,800 square feet. This building will be used for church and community activities and serve as an outreach to the community surrounding Mill Grove United Methodist Church.

The design process will continue beginning in June of 2010 and anticipated groundbreaking is June of 2011.
