We invite you to become part of the proud heritage at
Mill Grove United Methodist Church. Come grow with us!

Mill Grove United Methodist Church was founded in 1846. The
original church, built in 1876, was made of hand dressed planks held
together with wooden pegs. Named Mill Grove because it was
across the road from Stewarts Mill, we are one of the oldest established
churches in the area.
Mill Grove has seen some drastic changes since it's establishment more than 160 years ago. For instance, the original building had pews marked with full church length dividers separating the men from the women. There was dedicated seating for slaves so that they could attend services with their masters. Even as late as the 1950's there were no bathroom facilities or running water at Mill Grove.
A
far cry from today, in the 1950's there were only 5 Sunday school
classes and all 5 had to meet in the old sanctuary. In 1956, the church
added 4 rooms to the Sanctuary to hold the Sunday school classes. This
was seen as necessary for the church to continue to grow, much as our
new education wing today. In 1969, the Family Life building, (currently
the Youth Building) was built to make more classrooms and
a kitchen available on the church site and yes, to finally bring water
and bathroom facilities to Mill Grove. In 1980 the existing Sanctuary
was remodeled. Paneling that exists today was added as well as new
carpeting and new pews. The original pulpit was left to show the
original décor.
Since Mill Grove was part of a multi-point charge, the church wasn't appointed its own regular pastor or a parsonage. It was served by a pastor who resided at a parsonage in Unionville. When this parsonage was sold, a new parsonage was built on property owned by Mill Grove close to the church itself. After Mill Grove became a single point charge because of the growth in the community in 2001, it was decided we needed more space and built the Family Life Center which is presently the new sanctuary. It was built with a new modern kitchen and classrooms for Sunday school. It is a great venue for events and gatherings. In February 2006 the original Sanctuary was moved to its present location to make room for the new education wing as we continue to grow. The church is also a meeting place for scouts, AA, Al-anon and various other groups.
Taking bold steps of faith in response to God's leading, we are currently in the planning stages of designing a newer, larger multipurpose building to keep pace with the ever growing population in western Union County. As one of the fastest growing Churches in the area, it is definitely an exciting time to be a part of Mill Grove United Methodist Church!
